    Reasons Why Your Air Conditioning Unit Trip the Circuit Breakers

    An air conditioner must run for a prolonged period to circulate a substantial amount of cooling air and achieve the desired temperature. When forced to exert extra effort, it draws more electricity and trips the circuit breaker. Mentioned below are a few more reasons you must be aware of. Please check them out right now.

    1. Dirty Air Filters

    When an AC has dirty air filters, it tends to work harder for circulating the air through the vents. As mentioned right in the beginning, when an AC is forced to run longer, it draws more electricity and trips the circuit breaker. The AC will get overheated, wearing it down in absolutely no time.

    1. Less Refrigerant

    Highly trained technicians suggest that similar to the above problem, when a unit is forced to run on less refrigerant, it takes longer to cool the home. You will know refrigerant is an issue when the air released by the AC is not cold as you want it to be.

    1. Dirty Condenser Coils

    The condenser coils are located outside the air conditioner. The system’s internal parts absorb heat from the air using the refrigerant, flowing back to the external unit.

    When the condenser coils get dirty, they prevent the action of the external unit from releasing heat out. This makes the AC work hard, and it would need excessive electricity to push the heat out, which then trips the circuit breaker.

    You can try washing the coils on your own. But, it will be better to get them cleaned by an expert.

    1. Impaired Coil Fan

    As mentioned just above, the coils aim to release heat from the internal unit. This happens via a fan that blows on top of the coils. This fan lies outside the AC, and if it suddenly stops working, the coils will have no means to cool.

    Any layman cannot repair the fan, so please contact a professional.

    1. Bad Capacitor

    The capacitor is known for starting the compressor. If your capacitor blows out, it must be replaced immediately. This could be the fundamental factor behind your air conditioner having trouble turning on before the circuit breaker trips.

    1. Ageing Parts and Loose Wiring

    When an air conditioning system gets old and wears down, the wiring inside starts loosening and affect the air cooling service. The ageing of the components can also be a major cause of why a circuit breaker is tripping.

    According to an electrician, apart from changing the dirty air filters, all the air conditioner and circuit breaker problems must be handled professionally. The reasons stated above can damage properties and inflict severe injuries and even death.
